Confederations Cup 2009 – Spanish National Team

Spain is the current European Championship Cup holders. According to Fifa rankings, they have been ranked as the best national soccer team in the world!! Wow! Isn’t that great or what!! They truly deserve it. After watching them in the Euro cup, it would be good to note that this team could be out even to win the Fifa world cup in South Africa. There style of play is mixed: they have both fresh talent that blends in with experience and this is what led them to raise the European trophy.

Some of the key names to watch out for are Torres, Guiza, David Villa, David Silva, Fabregas, Iniesta, Xavi, Xabi Alonso, Marco Senna, Gerard Pigue, Sergio Ramos, Ike Casillas and many others. Personally, I believe the Spaniards strength lies in the mid-field. With creative passes from Fabregas and Iniesta and the fierce conversion of the lethal striker Torres, Spain are bound to do wonders in this confederations cup. As observed in the Euro Cup, Marcos Senna was splendid in the role of defensive mid and whenever Cesc Fabregas was brought in, the game changed, passes flowed easily. I can remember him being involved in a number of goals scored. He is a young talent who is currently captaining one of the greatest premier leagues sides.

One of the greatest all time Spaniards is the man himself, Raul Gonzalez. He is Spain’s all time goal scorer with 44 goals under his belt. Isn’t this ma something or what? He started his career at a very early age and as we speak (he is currently in his 30s) he still terrorizes many defenses and has a lethal finish. I think Torres has taken over his role at striking as he has pace and great ball control. He can go head-on towards 2 defenders, leave them and produce a splendid finish. Having the help of David Villa and David Silva, who also have great ball control and deadly shooting skills, will help Torres upfront, not forgetting the ever so skillful through ball produce by Fabregas, Iniesta and Alonso.

So watch out for Spain in the Fifa Confederations Cup 2009. They will be led by Vicente Del Bosque, a well experienced coach. You would not like to miss this action. They will be in their famous red shirts and black shorts!! They are nicknamed La Furia Roja meaning ‘ The Red Fury’!!!
